WINERY OVERVIEW Founded in 1630 and now run by the 12th generation, the family works the Chatelain area of 30 hectares in Pouilly-Fumé AOC, spread over six towns of the seven in the designation. This particular geography made of plots offers a good overview of all the lands comprising AOC. Creative freedom and a meticulous selection of blends allow Domaine Chatelain to provide well balanced, elegant and distinctive wines.
The soils, including Barrois limestones, flinty clay and Kimmeridgian marls, each have their own influence and strengths. Porous and rapidly warming Barrois limestone allow for early maturity, while the flinty clay covering the limestone plateaus of St. Andelain, St. Laurent Abbey and Tracy-sur-Loire, produce structured, firm wines with minerality. Kimmeridgian marls that cover most of the Pouilly vineyards provide fruity notes and long length in the mouth. Together, these vineyards produce some of the most exciting and elegant wines in the region.
