Founded in 1835 by Manuel María González, González Byass has a rich history rooted in the wine business. Manuel, a young entrepreneur from Jerez, started the company with the support of his uncle, José Ángel y Vargas, famously known as "Tío Pepe". The company quickly expanded internationally, with Tío Pepe being sold for the first time in 1844 and Mr. Byass becoming the exclusive distributor in the UK in 1855.
Throughout the years, González Byass has been known for its visionary and forward-thinking spirit. The company supported the construction of the Jerez–Cádiz railway, the first in Andalucia, and built the Gran Bodega Tío Pepe in 1964, designed by Eduardo Torroja in a modernist style. After over 100 years of partnership, the González family bought the shares of the Byass family. González Byass has now become a Family of Wine & Spirits, incorporating wineries from emblematic areas that faithfully represent the oenological diversity of Spain. These include various designations of origin such as Rioja, Somontano, Cava, Rueda and Ribera del Duero. In 2016, the company made the leap to the New World with the incorporation of the Chilean family winery Viñedos Veramonte and an acquisition of Casa Pedro Domecq (brandies and wines) in Mexico, thus completing its range of spirits products.
González Byass' portfolio is made up of 38 brands that cover a wide range of categories:
